Hi! My name is Darra and I love food. I’ve always loved food. It’s just now the food I love is actually food instead of the chemicals and junk I used to eat. Except for ice cream, I make an exception for ice cream.
I’m 40 and a mom to 4. Haley is 25 (no, I wasn’t a promiscuous teenager, she’s my stepdaughter that I adopted), Dylan is 14, and the twins, Lachlan & Justin, are 11. We live in central Indiana where eating organic/clean/real (whatever you want to call it) is not mainstream yet. I’m also a part-time Senior Systems Analyst for a healthcare network.
My goal for this blog is to help you transition to a real food lifestyle. No diets, no counting anything (carbs, calories, macros, etc), and hopefully with no stress. It’s just choosing better, more sensible food for yourself and your family. It's all about balance and doing the best that you can.
I struggle with body image. I was overweight throughout my childhood and up until my first couple of years in high school. Our culture today is so into perfection and body shaming. It’s ridiculous and we've been brainwashed into hating ourselves. So let’s join this newly evolving revolution of loving our bodies no matter what. I don’t know about you, but I’m aging, and I’ve had kids. I cannot exercise or eat clean enough to get rid of this cellulite or loose skin, so I might as well embrace it…right?
I pretty much stick to a Paleo way of eating. I have found that for me, I do better without grains, legumes, and dairy. That doesn't mean I never eat those things, just sparingly. You don't have to follow a specific diet like Paleo, just figure out what works best for your body. As long as the foods are "real" or "clean" then go for it.
So that’s it. I don’t know how to create recipes, so I’m not really a “food blogger”. I can follow a recipe though and I’ll share all of the wonderful recipes I make from these amazingly talented people that make this real food eating business a breeze. I've learned a ton over the year and I want to share that knowledge with you.
I started a clean eating group on Facebook years ago and I discovered how much joy it brings me. Now I’m taking it to a larger audience and cannot wait to help you!
